Mining

For mining, the availability and proper management of water is key to its long-term sustainability. The entire process for mineral processing requires water, whether it be flotation, leaching or any other kind used.

A mine generates large amounts of highly concentrated wastewater due to contact between water and various types of minerals.  In addition, rain that infiltrates the tailings of the mine can also cause oxidation, hydrolysis, washing, etc. producing a highly contaminated wastewater.

The contact between minerals and water, by process or rain, can produce distinct reactions.  The effluents produced are of diverse compositions, depending upon the nature of each mineral, since there are those soluble, hydrolysable and non-hydrolysable, as well as sorbents and non-sorbents. Thus, the discharge of such wastewater can provoke serious consequences in mining and its environment by completely altering water chemistry.

Wastewater from extractive operations (bauxite, coal, copper, gold, silver, diamonds, iron, precious metals, lead, limestone, magnesite, nickel, phosphate, oil shale, rock salt, tin, uranium, molybdenum) is acidic or alkaline and contains heavy metals.

Elgressy understand that the supply of properly conditioned water has a crucial influence on productivity and process quality and offer customized solutions for the following water treatment applications:
